INDUSTRY'S FIRST 12.5Gbps EQUALIZER EXTENDS REACH TO 30in OF FR4 IN SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS
SUNNYVALE, CA-February 13, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ:MXIM) builds upon its industry-leading equalizer portfolio with the introduction of the MAX3804, the industry's first equalizer capable of up to 12.5Gbps operation. The MAX3804 effectively extends the usable length of FR4 in serial communications. The device's receive equalizer/transmit buffer provides up to 20dB of adjustable receive equalization at 10Gbps (5GHz) for PCB signal integrity applications. It can extend the practical transmission distance for 10Gbps NRZ serial data up to 30in (0.75m) on FR4, enabling low-cost, chip-to-chip interconnections over FR4 printed circuit board material.
Eight discrete levels of input equalization can be selected (2dB to 20dB at 5GHz) through a digital control input. When correctly set to match transmission path loss, this device provides optimal performance over a wide range of data rates and formats. The MAX3804 is compatible with both scrambled SONET and 8b/10b data types.
The MAX3804 achieves less than 30psP-P jitter performance, consuming only 115mW of power with a 3.3V supply. The device enables CML inputs and outputs to DC-couple to 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V ICs, allowing direct interaction with a wide range of common-mode voltages and eliminating external components.
Packaged in a 3mm x 3mm thin QFN, the MAX3804 operates over the
