MAXIM'S +3.3V, RS-485, TRUE FAIL-SAFE TRANSCEIVERS WITH ±15kV ESD PROTECTION

(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3070E-MAX3079E +3.3V, RS-485 transceivers. These devices feature hot swap and true fail-safe circuitry to ensure reliable data transfer. Hot swap circuitry eliminates data glitches during hot insertion by holding the RS-485/RS-422 lines in a high-impedance state for a minimum 10µs during startup, and until the first transition occurs on driver enable. True fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open, shorted, or connected to a terminated transmission line with all drivers disabled. This feature eliminates the need to externally bias the bus using external components.
The MAX3070E-MAX3079E operate from a single +3.3V supply and feature a 1µA shutdown mode (except the MAX3071E/MAX3074E/MAX3077E). These devices withstand ESD strikes up to ±15kV per Human Body Model, providing added protection to the RS-485 port. The MAX3070E-MAX3079E have a 1/8-unit-load input impedance that allows up to 256 transceivers on the bus. These devices also offer half/full-duplex operation, 16Mbps data rate, slew-rate limiting to reduce EMI and reflections, and receiver/driver enable.
The MAX3070E-MAX3079E are available in the extended and automotive temperature ranges in an industry-standard (75176, 75179, 75180) 8- and 14-pin SO and DIP pinouts. Prices start at $1.75 (1000-up, FOB USA).
