MAXIM'S LOW-POWER, TWO-CHANNEL, SENSOR SIGNAL PROCESSOR PROVIDES 16-BIT CORRECTION

 
 

SUNNYVALE, CA-September 12, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1463 highly integrated, dual-channel, 16-bit programmable sensor signal conditioner that provides amplification, calibration, signal linearization, and temperature compensation. The MAX1463 delivers an overall performance approaching the inherent repeatability of the sensor without external trim components. The MAX1463's output can be configured as two independent signals, as the sum or difference of the signals, or as a custom user-defined output.

The MAX1463 accommodates sensors with sensitivities ranging from 1mV/V to 1V/V and supports both programmable current and voltage-sensor excitation. The MAX1463 is designed for use with a broad range of sensors, including pressure sensing, RTD and thermal-couple linearization, load cells, force sensing, and with resistive elements used in GMR and MR magnetic direction sensors.

The MAX1463 supports a choice of analog or digital outputs including 4—20mA, 0.5V to 4.5V ratiometric, and PWM. Uncommitted op amps are available for buffering the DAC outputs, driving heavier external loads, or providing additional gain and filtering.

The MAX1463 incorporates a 16-bit CPU, user-programmable 4kB of FLASH program memory, 128 bytes of FLASH user information, one 16-bit ADC, and two 16-bit DACs. It also has two 12-bit PWM digital outputs, four Rail-to-Rail® op amps, one SPI interface, two GPIOs, and one on-chip temperature sensor.

Packaged in a 28-pin SSOP, the MAX1463 operates from a single 5V supply over the automotive, industrial, and commercial temperature ranges. Prices start at $4.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
