(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3060E/MAX3061E/MAX3062E high-speed RS-485/RS-422 transceivers, packaged in an 8-pin SOT. These devices save 70% board space over the industry-standard SO package and feature true fail-safe and hot-swap circuitry to ensure reliable data transfer. Hot-swap circuitry eliminates data glitches during hot insertion by holding the
RS-485/RS-422 lines in a high-impedance state for at least 10µs during startup. The output drivers are held in the high-impedance state until the first transition occurs on driver enable. True fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open, shorted, or connected to a terminated transmission line with all drivers disabled. Enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuitry is also designed into all devices. These devices are rated to protect equipment up to ±15kV per Human Body Model.
The MAX3060E family offers three data-rate options. The MAX3060E features slew-rate-limiting circuitry to eliminate reflections and reduce EMI. It can operate at data rates up to 115kbps. The MAX3061E also features slew-rate-limiting circuitry with data rates up to 500kbps. For data-intensive applications and applications that are not sensitive to EMI, the MAX3062E transmits data up to 20Mbps. All devices feature 1nA shutdown supply current and require a single 5V supply.
