BROADBAND RF TRANSMITTER HAS ON-CHIP SIGMA-DELTA FRACTIONAL-N SYNTHESIZER

SUNNYVALE, CA-June 21, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2150 broadband RF transmitter, the industry's only transmit IC with an on-chip sigma-delta fractional-N synthesizer. The synthesizer has up to 28 bits of fractionalization, allowing an unprecedented 100 millihertz frequency resolution over a wide (700MHz to 2300MHz) operating frequency range. With the addition of an external VCO, the MAX2150 forms the basis for a complete broadband transmit system, either at IF or RF. Applications include satellite internet transmitters, LMDS, MMDS, and wireless broadband systems.

By applying the sigma-delta fractional-N synthesis, the MAX2150 can achieve the industry's lowest in-loop phase noise of -100dBc/Hz and finest frequency resolution of 100 millihertz. The resolution and fast settling time enable easy implementation of complex multifrequency time-division multiple-access systems such as 2-way satellite internet and VSATs.

This highly integrated chip consists of a wideband I/Q modulator, fractional-N synthesizer, local oscillator buffer, and crystal oscillator. In addition, control features such as multiple power-down modes and RF mute for quiet frequency synthesis are included.

The MAX2150 is available in a 6mm x 6mm 28-pin QFN package and operates from single 3.3V supply over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices start at $9.98 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
