DUAL, QUAD, 500ps COMPARATORS ACHIEVE 30ps PROP DELAY DISPERSION

Note to Editor: These comparators set a new standard for ultra-fast propagation delay and there are no faster comparator ICs on the market.
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 31, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX9600/MAX9601/MAX9602 ultra-high-speed comparators featuring propagation delay of only 500ps and edge-tracking frequency up to 4Gbps. These dual and quad comparators minimize channel-to-channel skew (10ps) and are designed for low propagation delay dispersion (30ps). These features make them ideal for applications where high-fidelity tracking of narrow pulses and low timing dispersion is critical, such as high-speed ATE, scope/logic analyzer front ends, and high-frequency line receivers with signal restoration.

The outputs are complementary digital signals, compatible with ECL or PECL systems, and provide sufficient current to directly drive transmission lines terminated at 50. The differential input stage accepts a wide range of signals in the common-mode range from (VEE + 3V) to (VCC - 2V).

The MAX9600 and MAX9601 are dual-channel ECL and PECL output comparators incorporating a latch-enable and hysteresis control. The latch-enable control permits tracking, track-hold, or sample-hold modes of operation. Hysteresis control from 5mV to 30mV is set by an external resistor to ground and prevents oscillations due to slow-moving inputs. The MAX9602 is a quad-channel PECL output comparator ideal for high-density packaging in limited board space.

The MAX9600/MAX9601/MAX9602 are specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C. The dual MAX9600/MAX9601 are available in 20-pin TSSOP packages with prices starting at $4.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). The quad MAX9602 comes in a 24-pin TSSOP package with prices starting at $6.75 (1000-up, FOB USA).
