DUAL PCI2.2 HOT-SWAP CONTROLLERS HOT SWAP ALL FIVE VOLTAGE RAILS
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 30, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5915/MAX5916 fully integrated dual hot-swap controllers for PCI2.2 (peripheral component interconnect) hot-plug slots. The MAX5915/MAX5916 allow the safe insertion and removal of PCI2.2 line cards into live PCI slots.
The MAX5915/MAX5916 integrate many features that simplify PCI2.2 hot-swap design and reduce board space and overall system cost. These devices provide independent power controls for +3.3V, +5V, +12V, -12V, and +3.3V auxiliary supply rails for two PCI cards. Both the MAX5915 and MAX5916 feature separate ON/OFF controls for both PCI slots and internal MOSFET switches for +12V, -12V, and +3.3V auxiliary voltage rails, reducing board space associated with external power MOSFETs and sense resistors.
The MAX5915/MAX5916 provide startup inrush current regulation, output undervoltage, and overcurrent monitoring for two PCI2.2 slots. Both devices employ a brick-wall and foldback current-limit scheme to prevent false trips due to line/load transients and damage due to excessive overcurrent and short-circuit conditions. In the event of an overcurrent or short-circuit condition, the MAX5915/MAX5916 limit the output current to a safe level, preventing damage to PCI cards and connectors.
Other features include power-good status indicators and thermal shutdown. The MAX5915 provides latched fault management and the MAX5916 is available with auto-retry fault management.
The MAX5915/MAX5916 are available in a 28-pin TSSOP package. The devices operate over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $4.67 (1000-up, FOB USA).
