NEW CHIP ALLOWS ARBITRARY GRAPHICS FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART SECURITY SYSTEMS
Note to Editor: The MAX4455 represents a milestone in on-screen display (OSD) video generators: it is the industry's only integrated 8-channel on-screen display capable of overlaying arbitrary graphics onto a video image. Arbitrary graphics offer the customer flexibility in displaying information. It enables the customer to enter foreign markets (Japan, China, Russia, etc.), which have unique character sets. The MAX4455 provides an alternate source for OSD insertion in a small 200mm2 package, while dramatically improving the graphics flexibility and capability.
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 30, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX4455 arbitrary graphics on-screen display (OSD) video generator. Ideal for security camera surveillance systems, the MAX4455 supports the overlay of graphics and text on up to eight video output channels in 15 levels of gray. It easily displays information such as company logo, camera location, time, and date information in arbitrary fonts and sizes. Arbitrary graphics capability enables the display of unique languages and fonts allowing manufacturers to tailor their system for any geographic market. By integrating eight channels in a small 200mm2 package, the MAX4455 simplifies system designs using high channel count. The MAX4455 can work with Maxim's crosspoint switches such as the MAX4356 and MAX4358, which include circuitry that simplifies the insertion of the OSD information.
The MAX4455 operates from a 3V to 3.6V digital supply, and a 2.7V to 5.5V analog supply. It is capable of interfacing to a host microprocessor (µP) and video crosspoint device that may have different digital supplies than the MAX4455's. Each input channel incorporates its own timing extraction circuitry, allowing eight asynchronous video sources with OSD information updating in less than one field, making it available for each new frame.
The MAX4455 is available in a 200mm2 100-pin TQFP package. It is available in the extended-industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range. Prices start at $74.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
