±80V FAULT-PROTECTED CAN TRANSCEIVER
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 23, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3053 ±80V fault-protected controller area network (CAN) transceiver. The MAX3053 is intended for telecom, automotive, and industrial applications that use power supplies as high as 72V. ±80V line faults or short circuits will not damage or latch up the MAX3053, and external protection devices are not needed.
The MAX3053 is guaranteed to operate at data rates up to 2Mbps in high-speed mode. In slope-control mode, the device transmits data up to 500kbps and features slew-rate limiting, which reduces EMI and reflections. The MAX3053 consumes less than the 30µA of supply current in shutdown and operates from a single 5V supply.
Designed to withstand many different types of faults, the MAX3053 features ±80V fault protection, thermal shutdown, and current-limiting circuitry to protect the device during short-circuit conditions. Enhanced ESD protection is featured on the CAN bus lines to provide immunity up to ±8kV.
The MAX3053 is available in the extended-industrial temperature range in an industry-standard 8-pin SO. Prices start at $1.51 (1000-up pricing, FOB USA).
