FIRST OPTICAL TRANSCEIVER DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR TO IMPLEMENT SFF-8472 MSA PROPOSALS

DALLAS, TX-March 8, 2002-Dallas Semiconductor introduces the DS1852, the industry's first optical transceiver diagnostic monitor implementing the enhanced monitoring features defined in the SFF-8472 Multisource Agreement (MSA) proposal.

The DS1852 manages all system monitoring functions required for SFF-8472-compliant optical transceivers. The high level of integration reduces component count and size and speeds up the design of optical transceivers. The DS1852's functions include: EEPROM memory for identification, tracking, and calibration; an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with four muxed inputs for monitoring system parameters; a temperature sensor; three fast comparators; and a 2-wire serial interface.

Programmable alarm and warning flags for all four ADC inputs and a temperature sensor enable the device to alert the system to out-of-tolerance conditions for a variety of measured parameters. The DS1852 is available in a space-saving 5 x 5 BGA package (0.8mm pitch). It operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V power supply over a -40°C to +100°C temperature range. Pricing for the DS1852 starts at $3.31 (1000-up, FOB USA).
An evaluation kit is available.
