16-BIT DAS INCLUDES MICROPROCESSOR SUPPORT
SUNNYVALE, CA-March 14, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1407/MAX1408/MAX1409 and MAX1414. These low-power, multichannel data-acquisition systems (DASs) feature a multiplexed 16-bit ADC, 10-bit DACs, a 1.25V internal reference, two voltage monitors (1.8V and 2.7V), a real-time clock with alarm function, an on-chip oscillator (32.768kHz), and a PLL (generating 2.4576MHz for a microprocessor). Ideal for portable and battery-powered applications, these parts operate from a single 1.8V to 3.6V supply, while consuming only 1.15mA. Software-configurable power modes result in supply currents as
low as 2.5µA.
The fully differential 16-bit ADC accepts both unipolar and bipolar inputs (software selectable) at data rates of either 30 samples per second or 60 samples per second. Self-calibration minimizes conversion errors and temperature sensitivity, and internal buffers isolate the analog input from the capacitive load presented by the internal ADC. For applications requiring minimal power that do not require this isolation, these buffers may be disabled and bypassed. An internal programmable gain amplifier (PGA) provides three gain settings for the ADC (1/3, 1, 2).
The MAX1407/MAX1414 have four ADC channels and two force/sense DACs, while the MAX1408 has eight ADC channels and no DACs. The MAX1409 provides one force/sense DAC and one ADC channel. These voltage-output DACs swing Rail-to-Rail and are capable of sourcing up to 2mA. They are guaranteed monotonic with an INL of ±1.0LSB.
The MAX1407/MAX1409/MAX1414 operate from a single 1.8V to 3.6V analog supply and directly interface with SPI, QSPI, and MICROWIRE devices without additional logic. The MAX1407/MAX1408/MAX1414 are packaged in a 28-pin SSOP, and the MAX1409 is packaged in a 20-pin SSOP. They are available in the commercial (0°C to +70°C) temperature range. Prices start at $5.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
