SMALLEST, HIGHEST FREQUENCY, 3A STEP-DOWN DC-DC WITH INTERNAL SWITCHES
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 29, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1830/MAX1831, small, high-frequency, 3A DC-DC power supply with internal switches. These devices are ideal for high-efficiency portable applications. They feature built-in 0.05 internal P-channel MOSFET power switches and N-channel synchrounous rectifiers, minimizing external components and improving efficiency to as high as 95%.
The MAX1830/MAX1831 feature a programmable constant-off-time, current-mode (PWM) control scheme with switching frequencies as high as 1MHz. This scheme also includes a unique Idle Mode™ PFM mode to maintain high efficiency during light-load operation. The MAX1830 produces a preset +2.5V, +1.8V, or +1.5V output, or an adjustable +1.1V to VIN output voltage. The MAX1831 produces a preset +3.3V, +2.5V, or +1.5V output, or an adjustable +1.1V to VIN output voltage. The input voltage ranges as low as +3V up to +5.5V. Other features include ±1.5% output accuracy, adjustable soft-start for limiting inrush current, 550µA typical supply current, and less than 1µA shutdown supply current.
The MAX1830/MAX1831 are available in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP package and screened for the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start from $ 4.59 (1000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled MAX1830 EV kit is available with recommended external components to reduce design time.
