ULTRA-LOW-POWER SINGLE 10- AND 12-BIT DACS IN TINY SOT23
SUNNYVALE, CA-August 15, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the 10- and 12-bit MAX5711 and MAX5712, which achieve the lowest power for a single SPI™-compatible 12-bit DAC while fitting into the smallest footprint available. These Rail-to-Rail®, buffered output, 10-bit and 12-bit D/A converters operate from +2.7V to +5.5V single supply voltages. A tiny 6-pin SOT23 package, along with their ultra-low power consumption, makes them ideal for portable battery-powered equipment.
These devices typically consume less than 140µA supply current while operating on a +2.7V to +5.5V single supply voltage, dissipating 0.34mW at 3V and 0.7mW at 5V. A power-down capability further reduces supply current to 0.2µA. When in power-down mode, by default the output impedance is switched to 100kΩ. Alternatively, it can be set to 1kΩ or high impedance via a software command. A power-on reset circuit pulls the output down to ground through the resistor network, ensuring the DAC output resets to zero volts on power-up and remains there until a valid write command is issued.
The MAX5711 and MAX5712 save board space. They eliminate the need for an external voltage reference because the reference is derived from VDD, allowing the widest dynamic range possible. The MAX5711 and MAX5712 also include a fast on-chip output buffer amplifier that typically settles in 4µs while achieving a true Rail-to-Rail output swing.
Each device utilizes a versatile 3-wire serial interface which operates up to clock speeds of 20MHz and is compatible with SPI, QSPI™, MICROWIRE™, and DSP interface standards.
