LOW-POWER, COMPACT 3.3V, 2.5Gbps TRANSIMPEDANCE AMPLIFIER
SUNNYVALE, CA-August 13, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products announces the MAX3271 3.3V, 2.5Gbps transimpedance amplifier that can be easily assembled into TO-46 or TO-56 headers with a photodiode. The MAX3271 transimpedance amplifier, the MAX3272* limiting amplifier, and the MAX3273 laser driver form a 3-chip solution for fiberoptic modules. Manufactured using Maxims second-generation in-house SiGe process, the MAX3271 has a small form factor, ultra-low power consumption, and high bandwidth. It is ideal for applications in OC-48/STM-16 transmission systems such as add/drop multiplexers and digital cross-connects.
Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the MAX3271 features a transimpedance gain of 2.8k , 495nA input-referred noise, and a 2mA AC input overload, while consuming only 83mW of power. It has a bandwidth of 2GHz and an optical dynamic range of -21dBm to +3dBm in shortwave configuration or -24dBm to 0 in long-wave configuration. The MAX3271 incorporates a space-saving 750 filter connection to positive bias the photodiode. Jitter performance exceeds ITU/Bellcore SDH/SONET specifications with only 12ps of deterministic jitter generated.
Available in 30mil x 50mil dice tested over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), the MAX3271 is priced at $4.95 (1000-up, suggested resale, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
