2Tx/2Rx RS-232 TRANSCEIVERS FEATURE ±15kV ESD PROTECTION ON ALL I/O PINS
Note to Editors: The MAX3380E/MAX3381E are truly significant products. These devices are the industrys first 2Tx/2Rx RS-232 devices with ESD protection on all RS-232 and logic pins. These devices are ideal for data cable applications in which either end of the cable is susceptible to an ESD event.
SUNNYVALE, CA-September 7, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3380E/MAX3381E 2Tx/2Rx RS-232 transceivers. These devices are ideal for cell phone and personal digital assistant (PDA) data cable applications requiring RS-232-compliant functionality. All input and output pins, including both the RS-232 pins, logic pins, and AutoShutdown Plus pins have integrated ESD structures that protect the device against ESD events. These pins withstand ±15kV using IEC1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, ±8kV using IEC1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and ±15kV using the Human Body Model, ensuring component compliance with strict European ESD standards.
The MAX3380E/MAX3381E operate from a single +2.5V to +5.5V supply. RS-232-compliant operation is guaranteed down to +3.1V, and RS-232-compatible operation is guaranteed down to +2.5V. These devices minimize power and heat dissipation by consuming only 10nA of supply current via AutoShutdown Plus. Additionally, these are compatible with logic voltage levels down to +1.8V, eliminating the need for level shifters in low-voltage logic systems. The MAX3380E/MAX3381E guarantee operation up to 460kbps.
The MAX3380E/MAX3381E are available in the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges in a 20-pin TSSOP, with prices starting at $2.78 (1000-up, FOB USA).
