+72V SOT23 HOT-SWAP CONTROLLER TARGETS NETWORKING AND SERVER MARKET
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 23, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5902/MAX5903, the industrys first SOT23 +72V hot-swap controllers intended for networking and server line cards. The MAX5902/MAX5903 Simple Swapper ICs allow networking and server line cards to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane without causing a glitch on the power supply rail.
These Simple Swappers drive an external P-channel MOSFET and do not require an external sense resistor for overcurrent shutdown. They limit the inrush current to the load and provide a circuit breaker feature for overcurrent protection. Overcurrent shutdown is achieved by sensing the voltage drop across the P-channel MOSFET, caused by the FETs "ON" resistance and the output current. The MAX5902/MAX5903 include an undervoltage lockout feature that disconnects power to the load if the input voltage is too low. The default undervoltage lockout is set to +30V and can be set to any voltage between +9V to +72V. Other features include ON/OFF pin for power supply sequencing and load disconnect, active-low (MAX5902) or active-high (MAX5903) power good indicator, and thermal shutdown for external MOSFET protection. The controller can operate from +9V to +72V input voltage.
The MAX5902/MAX5903 are available in three functional versions. One version automatically restarts the controller after a circuit-breaker shutdown, the second version latches the controller "OFF" after a circuit-breaker shutdown and the third version omits the circuit-breaker function.
The MAX5902/MAX5903 are available in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) in a surface-mount 6-pin SOT23 package. Prices start at $1.04 (1000-up, FOB USA).
