±15kV ESD-PROTECTED RS-232 TRANSMITTER IN A SOT
SUNNYVALE, CA-March 20, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3190/MAX3190E single SOT transmitter designed for space- and cost-constrained applications requiring minimal RS-232 communications. The MAX3190/MAX3190E are designed for use with ±7.5V to ±12V supplies, or can be piggybacked on Maxims RS-232 devices with unregulated charge pumps. These devices complement Maxims existing SOT transmitters (MAX3188E/MAX3189E), which are designed for use with ±4.5V to ±6V supplies, or Maxims regulated charge pump RS-232 devices.
The MAX3190E transmitter input is protected to ±15kV using the Human Body Model, making this device ideal for applications where a more robust transmitter is required.
These devices minimize power and heat dissipation by consuming only 0.4µA supply current from a ±7.5V to ±12V supply and ensure RS-232 compliance up to data rates of 460kbps. The MAX3190/MAX3190E can operate from supplies down to ±6V, guaranteeing RS-232-compatible output levels. These devices feature a three-state transmitter output and are interoperable with more than 40 Maxim RS-232 devices. When coupled with Maxims MAX3180E line of SOT receivers, a complete SOT RS-232 transceiver can be implemented, saving board space and increasing design flexibility.
The MAX3190/MAX3190E are available in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) in the 6-pin SOT23 package, with prices starting at $0.55 (1000up, FOB USA).
