0.3µA, LOW-POWER, BIDIRECTIONAL LEVEL TRANSLATORS IN SC70

 
 

Note to Editors: The MAX3370/MAX3371 are truly significant products. These devices are the industry’s first level translators packaged in an SC70. They are the smallest devices on the market, saving 80% board space over existing solutions and replacing messy discrete solutions.
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 6, 2000-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3370/MAX3371* low-voltage, bidirectional level translation ICs. These devices are packaged in tiny SC70 packages, saving 80% board space over existing integrated products and eliminating the need for messy discrete solutions. The MAX3370/MAX3371 allow low-voltage ASICs with a supply voltage down to +1.6V to communicate with higher-voltage peripherals with a supply voltage up to +5.5V, and vice versa. These devices provide a means for internal communication within a device such as an ASIC to an ADC or external communication such as a cell phone ASIC to an RS-232 transceiver in a cradle. The MAX3370/MAX3371 are ideal for cell phones, smart card applications, and I2C interfaces.

The MAX3370/MAX3371 consume less than 100µA of quiescent current, and the MAX3371 features a 0.3µA shutdown mode in which the I/O pins enter a high-impedance state. These devices operate from a power supply between +2.5V and +5.5V and a logic supply from +1.6V to VCC. The MAX3370/MAX3371 are guaranteed to operate up to 2Mbps when used with an active driver, and up to 500kbps when used with an open-drain driver. These devices contain internal 10kΩ pullup resistors to allow open-drain driving.

The MAX3370/MAX3371 are available in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). The MAX3370 is available in a tiny 5-pin SC70, and the MAX3371 is available in a 6-pin SC70. Prices start at $0.90 (1000-up, FOB USA).
