±15KV ESD-PROTECTED, DUAL RS-232 SERIAL PORT WITH LOW-POWER STANDBY MODE
SUNNYVALE, CA-October 1, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3209E dual RS-232 serial port for desktop PCs and motherboards. An on-board voltage inverter saves power with a 50µA standby mode and eliminates the need for a negative power supply. Additionally, the device saves space by integrating two RS-232 serial ports and a charge pump into a single 38-pin TSSOP package.
The 50µA standby mode allows the MAX3209E to comply with desktop system power-management requirements. During standby, while the device operates from the single +3V to +5.5V logic supply, one receiver on each port remains active to allow automatic system wake-up when peripheral communications resume.
All RS-232 transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method and the Human Body model, and to ±8kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, ensuring compliance with strict international ESD requirements. The MAX3209E guarantees mouse driveability and true RS-232-compliant operation at data rates up to 460kbps, ensuring compatibility with PC-to-PC communication software.
The MAX3209E is available in both the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended-industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges in the 38-pin TSSOP package. Prices start from $2.75 (1000-up, FOB USA).
