SUNNYVALE, CA—February 28, 2008—Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX9406, an extremely fast, low-skew, quad-channel DisplayPort™-to-HDMI™/DVI™ level shifter. This device enables PCs with a DisplayPort output to directly drive an HDMI/DVI-capable display, such as an LCD screen. The MAX9406 thus provides PC and graphics card manufacturers the flexibility to design for the DisplayPort specification, while supporting legacy HDMI/DVI displays through a low-cost level shifter. Additionally, it can level shift a differential video data stream driven through a PCI Express® card to drive an HDMI/DVI display. This capability enables alternate PC motherboard configurations, such as an add-on HDMI/DVI PCIe®-based solution.
The MAX9406 provides 5V to 3.3V bidirectional level shifting for the I2C-compatible display data channel (DDC) pins and 5V to 3.3V level shifting for the hot-plug detection (HPD) pin. This high-performance device features low 0.56psRMS added random jitter, a 2Gbps (max) data rate, an ultra-low 350ps propagation delay, and channel-to-channel skew of 20ps. Additionally, the inputs integrate 50Ω terminations and a self-biased common mode. The 48-pin version of the MAX9406 is function and pin compatible with the Intel® HDMI level-shifter specification.
Available in space-saving, 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin and 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin TQFN packages, the MAX9406 is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.30 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Maxim Integrated Products, a two billion dollar company, designs and manufactures ICs for analog and mixed-signal applications. The company's broad portfolio of 27 product categories is among the industry's deepest, with over 5400 products.
