Note to Editor:
- The MAX13410E–MAX13415E are half-duplex, RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with AutoDirection control and an integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulator.
- These devices save board space and reduce cost by eliminating external components.
- The MAX13410E–MAX13415E employ AutoDirection control to eliminate the need for a driver-enable control signal and, consequently, the optocouplers typically required for control-line isolation. The integration of an LDO regulator further saves space and cost.
- The MAX13410E–MAX13415E are ideal for isolated-metering, automotive, and industrial applications.

SUNNYVALE, CA—February 21, 2008—Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX13410E–MAX13415E* half-duplex, RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with an integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulator. These transceivers utilize Maxim's proprietary AutoDirection control architecture to automatically enable the driver when transmitting data. AutoDirection control thus eliminates the need for a driver-enable control signal, as well as the optocouplers typically required for control-line isolation. To further save space and reduce cost, the integrated LDO regulator features a wide, +6V to +28V supply range, eliminating the need to regulate isolated power supplies. The MAX13410E–MAX13415E are ideal for isolated-metering, automotive, and industrial applications.
These robust transceivers offer ±15kV ESD protection (Human Body Model) and thermal-shutdown protection. Additionally, they feature a 1/8-unit load-receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus. The MAX13410E/MAX13412E/MAX13414E* have slew-rate-limited drivers that reduce EMI for error-free transmission up to 500kbps. The MAX13411E/MAX13413E/MAX13415E are not slew-rate limited and, therefore, allow data rates up to 16Mbps.
The MAX13410E–MAX13415E are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range and are available in an industry-standard, 8-pin SO package. Pricing starts at $1.49 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Maxim Integrated Products, a two billion dollar company, designs and manufactures ICs for analog and mixed-signal applications. The company's broad portfolio of 27 product categories is among the industry's deepest, with over 5400 products.
