FIRST SOT23 DUAL-TEMPERATURE COMPARATOR NEEDS NO EXTERNAL COMPONENTS, SAVES BOARD SPACE AND POWER

 
 

SUNNYVALE, CA—April 26, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX6505–MAX6508 family of dual thermal comparators, the latest additions to their industry-leading line of temperature switches. These devices are the smallest and lowest-power dual-temperature switches available in the industry.

Each of these products combines two temperature comparators on a single chip, making reliability-enhancing temperature control, warning, and protection functions easy to build into your system.

Temperature thresholds are factory-preset, which means no external components are required to set the temperature trip points. To precisely match these circuits to your system, preset trip temperatures are available from -40°C to +125°C in 5°C increments. Threshold accuracy is ±0.5°C (typ) and ±3°C (max) over specified temperature ranges.

The MAX6505 and MAX6506 have two logic outputs: ALARM and WARN. ALARM is asserted when the temperature exceeds the factory-set trip temperature. The trip temperature for the WARN output is pin-selected by the user to 5°C, 10°C, 20°C, or 30°C below the ALARM trip temperature.

The MAX6507 and MAX6508 also have two logic outputs: OVER and OK. OK indicates whether the device’s temperature falls within the range bounded by the factory-set upper and lower trip temperatures. OVER indicates that the temperature exceeds the upper trip temperature.

The MAX6505 and MAX6507 outputs are open-drain, whereas the MAX6506 and MAX6508 outputs are push-pull. All four devices operate from +2.5V to +5.5V power-supply voltages and are available in 6-pin SOT23 packages. Prices start from $0.79 (1000-up, FOB USA).
