Note to Editor:
  • The MAX2112 is a zero-IF, direct-conversion tuner for satellite TV.
  • The MAX2112 reduces total solution size and cost.
  • The low, 8.0dB noise figure and wide dynamic range of the front-end eliminate the need for an external LNA, thus saving both space and cost.
  • The MAX2112 is ideal for next-generation digital video broadcast-satellite (DVB-S2) applications and set-top boxes.
SUNNYVALE, CA—September 10, 2007—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX2112 low-cost, zero-IF, direct-conversion tuner for satellite TV. This tuner receives QPSK and 8PSK signals in the 925MHz to 2175MHz range, and downconverts them to baseband for demodulation. To reduce total solution size and cost, it provides a low, 8.0dB noise figure and wide, -75dBm to 0dBm dynamic range, thus eliminating the need for an external LNA. Additionally, its VCO autotuner function simplifies firmware for ease of use. The MAX2112 is ideal for DVB-S2 and free-to-air applications in which low cost and ease of use are key requirements.

The MAX2112 operates from a single 3.3V supply, consumes only 300mW, and is designed for use with a 27MHz crystal. The MAX2112 is packaged in a 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin TQFN and is available in both the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended industrial temperature (-40°C to +85°C) ranges. Prices start at $4.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits and reference designs are available to speed designs.
