The MAX4923–MAX4926 are overvoltage-protection (OVP) controllers that drive an external pFET.
These devices save power by drawing a low 13µA (typ) supply current.

SUNNYVALE, CA—June 18, 2007—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX4923*–MAX4926 family of overvoltage-protection (OVP) controllers. These devices drive an external pFET to provide protection to low-voltage systems against high-voltage faults up to 28V, while drawing a low 13µA (typ) supply current. The use of an external pFET enables these OVP controllers to achieve this low power consumption by eliminating the need for an integrated charge pump, which is the main source of current drain in competitive solutions. Consequently, the MAX4923–MAX4926 are ideal for cell phones, MP3 players, PDAs, and other devices that implement battery charging through a wall adapter or USB port.
This family of OVP controllers provides ±2.5% accurate overvoltage/undervoltage trip levels, and it features a variety of overvoltage trip levels: 7.18V (MAX4923), 6.16V (MAX4924), 5.64V (MAX4925), and 4.46V (MAX4926). The undervoltage trip level is set to 2.44V (typ) for all of the devices. Additionally, these controllers incorporate a fault flag signal that alerts the microcontroller of an overvoltage or undervoltage event.
