First Half-Duplex RS-485 Transceivers with AutoDirection Eliminate a Control Channel
| Note to Editor: The MAX13487E/MAX13488E are the first RS-485 transceivers with AutoDirection. AutoDirection eliminates the need to drive the driver-enable channel, thus simplifying designs and reducing discrete component count in isolated applications. |
SUNNYVALE, CA—March 14, 2007—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX13487E/MAX13488E half-duplex RS-485 transceivers. These devices feature AutoDirection, which automatically enables the driver when transmitting data. This feature eliminates the driver-enable control signal, thus saving space and reducing component count in isolated metering, automotive, and industrial applications.
The MAX13487E offers ±15kV ESD protection using the IEC 61000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge Method, and both transceivers provide ±15kV ESD protection using the Human Body Model. The MAX13487E's slew-rate-limited drivers provide reduced EMI and operation in environments with high levels of radiated noise for error-free transmission up to 500kbps. The MAX13488E allows data rates up to 16Mbps. Additionally, these devices feature a 1/4-unit load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 128 transceivers on the bus.
The MAX13487E/MAX13488E operate over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range and are available in an industry-standard, 8-pin SO package. Pricing starts at $1.25 (1000-up, FOB USA).
