Industry's First Dual-Channel, Platinum RTD Analog Conditioner Offers ±5kV ESD Protection for Automotive Engine-Control Systems
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 12, 2006-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ:MXIM) introduces the MAX6603, a small analog conditioner for interfacing resistive temperature devices (RTDs) to microcontrollers. It amplifies platinum RTD signals for ADC conversion and provides up to ±5kV ESD protection. The MAX6603 is targeted for next-generation automotive engine-control systems that use exhaust temperature monitoring for EURO-IV emissions compliance.
By offering complete automotive fault protection against ESD (±5kV rated) and short-to-battery fault protection, the MAX6603 replaces expensive discrete solutions, reduces board space, and protects sensitive microcontroller inputs. External RTD faults and system diagnostic status are indicated by a simple digital interface pin. The MA6603 has low RD excitation current, which minimizes self-heating errors, does not require calibration, and simplifies system design.
Housed in a small 10-pin TDFN, the MAX6603 offers ±6°C (max) accuracy from +400°C to +600°C with no calibration required. It operates from a 3.0V to 5.5V supply voltage range and over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Pricing begins at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
