Industry's First Monolithic, 32-Channel, 16-/14-BIT DACs to Feature Offset and Gain Calibration

Note to Editor: MAX5762-MAX5765 and MAX5773/MAX5774/MAX5775 are the industry's most highly integrated DACs, the only monolithic (single silicon chip), 16-bit, 32-channel devices with offset and gain calibration. Competitors have only achieved 14-bit resolution in comparable 32- and 40-channel devices. The MAX5762-MAX5765 and MAX5773/MAX5774/MAX5775 also have the smallest footprint of any 32- or 40-channel devices currently available

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 8, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5762-MAX5765 (16-bit) and MAX5773/MAX5774/MAX5775 (14-bit), the most precise and most compact 32-channel, digital-to-analog converters (DACs) that integrate a programmable offset and gain calibration algorithm. This algorithm senses and corrects for offset and gain errors in accordance with the programmed levels. These DACs reduce system cost and space requirements by eliminating the need for external offset and gain correction circuitry, output amplifiers, filters, or capacitors. Packaged in a 10mm x 10mm 68-pin TQFN or 12mm x 12mm 64-pin TQFN, the small footprint and excellent linearity make these devices well-suited for industrial applications, including automatic test equipment, fiber optics, and data acquisition.

Not only do the MAX5762-MAX5765 and MAX5773/MAX5774/ MAX5775 achieve an ultra-high level of integration, but they also offer much improved linearity over devices of previous generation. At the 16-bit level, they guarantee integral nonlinearity of 0.012% FSR (max), and differential nonlinearity of less than 1 LSB. Each of the four output voltage ranges (0 to +5V, 0 to +10V, -2.5V to +7.5V, and ±5V) maintains linearity to within 200mV of the supply rails. An integrated offset DAC allows programmable common-mode adjustment of the voltage ranges. The SPI(TM)-/QSPI(TM)-/MICROWIRE(TM)-compatible, 3-wire serial interface connects with microprocessors and DSPs without additional circuitry, and supports clock data rates as high as 33MHz. Additionally, these devices have a digital output for daisy-chaining multiple devices in a system.

The MAX5762-MAX5765 and MAX5773/MAX5774/MAX5775 are available in the extended commercial temperature range (0 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius). Prices start at $68.89 for the MAX5762-MAX5765 and $47.95 for the MAX5773/MAX5774/MAX5775 (1000-up, B grade, commercial temperature, FOB USA).
