65V Input, Linear Regulators in Tiny 6-Pin TDFN Package Consume Only 50µA Quiescent Current
SUNNYVALE, CA-March 13, 2006-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5084/MAX5085 low-dropout (LDO), low-quiescent-current linear regulators designed to survive harsh automotive environments. These devices deliver a supply up to 200mA directly from a car battery, withstand load dump transients of up to 80V, and consume only 50µA of quiescent current with light load. An ENABLE input (active-high) turns the regulator on or off and draws only 6µA of supply current when in shutdown mode.
An integrated SET input, when connected to ground, selects a preset output voltage of 5V (MAX5084) or 3.3V (MAX5085). Alternatively, the output voltage can be adjusted from 2.54V to 11V by connecting the SET pin to the regulator's output through a resistive-divider network.
The MAX5084/MAX5085 integrate an OUT_SENSE pin that senses
remote output voltages, thus enabling precise voltage regulation. These regulators provide short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown, operate over the automotive temperature range (-40°C to +125°C), and can dissipate up to 1.9W at +70°C ambient temperature. The devices are available in a tiny 3mm x 3mm, thermally enhanced, 6-pin TDFN package. Pricing starts at $1.37 (1000-up, FOB USA).
