Programmable Spread-Spectrum, 21-Bit, DC-Balanced Deserializers Reduce EMI and Save Space and Cost for 800 x 480 Displays
SUNNYVALE, CA-February 9, 2006-Maxim Integrated
Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the latest
members of its high-speed LVDS SerDes family-the
MAX9242/MAX9244/MAX9246 hot-swappable, 21-bit,
DC-balanced LVDS deserializers with programmable
spread spectrum. Both output clock and data are
spread over a specified ±2% or ±4% range to
reduce EMI. DC-balancing reduces bit errors from
a change in the common mode caused by ground
shift. This feature allows AC-coupling of outputs
and allows isolation between serializer and
deserializer. AC-coupling also provides
short-to-battery protection.
These deserializers reduce the number of wires or
traces from 22 to 8, simplifying design and
saving space and cost in system interconnects
such as cables and backplanes. The
MAX9242/MAX9244/MAX9246 are ideal for driving 800
x 480 resolution displays in automotive
navigation and entertainment systems, digital
copiers, and laser printers. When operating at
40MHz clock speed, the maximum aggregate payload
data rate is 840Mbps.
The MAX9242/MAX9244/MAX9246 deserialize three
LVDS serial inputs into 21 single-ended
LVTTL/LVCMOS outputs, and communicate over a
3-wire twisted pair or differential line. The
LVDS outputs meet the requirements of the ANSI
TIA/EIA 644 LVDS standard and ISO 10605 (±25kV
Air, ±8kV Contact). These deserializers also
feature a separate output supply for interfacing
to 1.8V to 5V logic-level inputs. Hot-swappable
capability increases fault tolerance and allows
"on-the-fly" frequency programming. Advanced
proprietary and integrated data coding reduce EMI.
The MAX9242/MAX9244/MAX9246 are available in a
48-pin, low-profile TSSOP package. All devices
are specified for operation from -40 degrees
Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius. Prices start at
$4.62 (1000-up, FOB USA).
