2.2W Stereo, Audio Speaker Amplifier Featuring Analog Volume Control Is Ideal for Multimedia Monitors
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 2, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9787, a Class AB 2.2W speaker amplifier with integrated analog volume control, a beep input, and industry-leading 90dB power-supply rejection ratio (PSRR). The analog volume control can be driven with a potentiometer, an RC-filtered PWM source, or a DAC output. The BEEP input allows you to add alert signals from a system controller to the audio path. The MAX9787 delivers audiophile audio quality with 0.01% THD+N, making it ideal for multimedia monitors, notebook computers, and portable audio players.
The MAX9787's 90dB PSRR ensures low THD+N even when using an unregulated power supply. Competitive amplifiers with lower PSRR either require an expensive regulated power supply, which increases that overall solution cost, or allow power-supply noise to pass through the amplifier to the speakers, which degrades the audio quality.
The MAX9787 also offers Maxim's industry-leading click-and-pop suppression, which eliminates audible transients during power and shutdown cycles. Other device features include a single-supply voltage, shutdown mode, logic-selectable gain, and thermal-overload and output short-circuit protection. Four maximum gain settings range from 6dB to 10.5dB with two gain pins.
The MAX9787 is offered in a space-saving, thermally efficient 28-pin thin QFN (5mm x 5mm x 0.8mm) package. It is specified over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices start at $1.35 (1000-up, FOB USA).
