Industry's First Single-Supply Analog Switches with Negative Signal Handling Improve Audio Signal Quality
SUNNYVALE, CA-August 31, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX4901-MAX4905 family of dual SPST and single SPDT analog switches. This switch family can handle negative signals with a single positive power supply, thereby reducing external component count and improving audio signal quality.
The MAX4902/MAX4904/MAX4905 feature integrated shunt switches to ground. This feature reduces audio popping and clicking sounds by depleting the capacitive charge, which commonly builds up on the unconnected port of the switch, to ground. In addition, an extremely low 0.6 ohm on-resistance, a low 0.25 ohm on-resistance flatness, and a low 0.04% total harmonic distortion yield excellent audio signal quality. An integrated comparator (MAX4905) gives the user mute and headphone-detection functionality, normally implemented with external components.
The MAX4901-MAX4905 are available in the extended temperature range (-40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius) and in both a tiny 9-bump UCSP(TM) (1.5mm x 1.5mm) and an 8-pin TDFN package (3mm x 3mm). Prices start at $1.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
The previously released MAX4762-MAX4765 family of analog switches offers the same performance as the MAX4901-MAX4905 in a small UCSP package but in a dual SPDT switch configuration.
