Tiny, 6.5Msps 12-Bit ADCs Save Designers 85% Board Space and 40% Power


Note to Editor: The MAX1336*/MAX1337 (8 bit), MAX1334*/MAX1335 (10 bit), and MAX1332*/MAX1333 (12 bit) are the smallest and lowest power, true-differential input, ADCs on the market. Their tiny 9mm(2), 16-pin TQFN package and their 67mW of power dissipation save the customer 85% more board space and consume 40% less power dissipation than the closest competitor (ADS7881). A separate DVDD power supply allows direct interface to 1.8V to 3.6V digital logic.

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 22, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1336*/MAX1337 (8 bit), MAX1334*/MAX1335 (10 bit), and MAX1332*/MAX1333 (12 bit) family of high-speed, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). These ADCs feature two true-differential inputs, 3V or 5V single-supply operation, and a SPI(TM)-/QSPI(TM)-/MICROWIRE(TM)-compatible interface. Their small, 9mm(2) footprint saves 85% board space and the low 67mW power dissipation consumes 40% less power than the closest competitor (ADS7881). With a high conversion rate and DC accuracy (±1 LSB INL), these ICs are ideal for applications ranging from industrial process control and motor control to battery-powered wireless applications.

These ADCs all operate from either a 4.75V to 5.25V, or 2.7V to 3.6V single supply. The MAX1336/MAX1337 have a 6.5Msps (max) sampling rate, while the MAX1334/MAX1335 have a 4.5Msps sampling rate, and the MAX1332/MAX1333 devices have a 4Msps (max) sampling rate. These devices consume only 12mA at the maximum conversion rate and feature partial and full power-down modes that reduce the supply current to 3.3mA and 0.2 microamp, respectively. A separate DVDD pin allows direct interfacing to 1.8V to 3.6V digital logic.

The MAX1336/MAX1337, MAX1334/MAX1335, and MAX1332/MAX1333 are available in a space-saving, 9mm(2), 16-pin TQFN package in the extended (-40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius) temperature range. Prices start at $1.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).
