Clock Synthesizer with Spread Spectrum Reduces EMI in Clock Trees

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 16, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9492, a high-performance, low-jitter frequency synthesizer designed to reduce EMI while generating multiple clocks for distribution in network routers or switches. This integrated design replaces two to three devices currently required to perform the same function, thereby reducing overall system cost.

The MAX9492 provides six low-jitter outputs, one of which is the buffered output of the reference clock. The other five outputs are independently programmable to generate all clock frequencies required in a network or storage linecard: 133, 125, 83, 66, 62.5, 50, 33, and 25MHz. The device's spread-spectrum capability spreads the fundamental energy over a wider frequency range and, hence, reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI). The output frequency spectrum is down-spread by -2.5% or -1.25%.

The MAX9492 is available in a 20-pin TQFN package. The device operates from a single +3.3V supply and over the extended temperature range (-40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius). Prices start at $3.35 (1000-up, FOB USA).
