INDUSTRY'S FIRST 5Tx/3Rx RS-232 TRANSCEIVERS WITH ±15kV ESD PROTECTION ON ALL I/O PINS
SUNNYVALE, CA—February 10, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3237E family of RS-232 transceivers. The MAX3237E/MAX3238E/MAX3248E are five transmitter/three receiver complementary serial ports, ideal for cell-phone data cables, modems, set-top boxes, and other devices that require RS-232-compliant functionality. All input and output pins, including both the RS-232 pins and the logic pins, have integrated ESD structures that protect the device to ±15kV using the Human Body Model and reduce ESD-related failures.
This family of devices minimizes power and heat dissipation by consuming only 10nA of supply current from a +3.0V to +5.5V supply via AutoShutdown Plus™. Additionally, the MAX3237E guarantees true RS-232 performance up to a 1.0Mbps data rate, while the MAX3238E/MAX3248E transmit RS-232-compliant data up to 250kbps. The MAX3248E also interoperates with logic voltage levels as low as 1.8V, eliminating the need for level shifters in low-voltage logic systems. The MAX3238E/MAX3248E have a continuously active extra receiver, allowing the ring indicator to be monitored. The MAX3237E receivers can either be active or inactive in shutdown.
The MAX3237E family is available in both the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges, in SSOP and TSSOP packages. Prices start from $3.87 (1000-up pricing, FOB USA).
