Low-Noise, Step-Up DC-DC Converter Provides High Voltage for Active Matrix LCD Supplies
SUNNYVALE, CA-March 14, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX8727, a boost converter that provides the high-voltage analog supply for dot inversion Active Matrix LCD (AMLCD) supplies. High-performance current mode, fixed frequency, pulse-width-modulation circuitry with built-in n-channel MOSFET provides a highly efficient regulator with fast response.
High switching frequency allows easy filtering and faster loop performance. An external compensation pin provides flexibility in determining loop dynamics. As a result designers can now use small, low-ESR ceramic capacitors. Soft-start is programmed with an external capacitor, which sets the input-current ramp rate. The MAX8727 is available in a space-saving 10-pin TDFN package and operates over a -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius.
Prices for the MAX8727 DC-DC converter start at $2.94 (1000-up, FOB USA). To reduce design time, a pre-assembled MAX8727 evaluation kit is available with recommended external components.
