Cable Equalizer IC Extends DVI/HDMI Reach Beyond 30 Meters
SUNNYVALE, CA—October 22, 2004—Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3815, a digital video equalizer for DVI and HDMI cables. This device enables low-cost, high-quality digital interconnections on inexpensive cables longer than 30 meters and improves receiver margin for shorter cables. While the DVI/HDMI digital-video interconnect standards give consumers unprecedented picture clarity, one problem remains—maximum interconnect lengths have been only 5 to 10 meters. For many applications, such as digital video projectors and large-screen HDTVs, cable reach beyond five meters is finally attainable at a reasonable price with the MAX3815.
The MAX3815 cable equalizer automatically compensates for the three TMDS data channels and one clock signal in DVI, HDMI, DFP, PanelLink, and ADC cables. It extends the usable cable distance up to 36m of 28AWG STP (shielded twisted pair) cable, and up to 30m of 30AWG STP cable. The MAX3815 automatically extends VGA, SVGA, XGA, and UXGA computer resolutions, as well as 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p HDTV resolutions in digital displays, cable-extender modules, or active cable assemblies. The MAX3815 is available in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin TQFP-EP package for only $4.95 (1000-up suggested resale, FOB USA).
