XFP Signal-Conditioner Chipset Provides 0.6UI Tolerance at the Receiver and Only 4mUIP-P Jitter Generation at the Transmitter
SUNNYVALE, CA-January 27, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3991/MAX3992, a signal-conditioner chipset for 10Gbps XFP transceiver modules. The MAX3991/MAX3992 The MAX3991 is a clock-and-data-recovery (CDR) IC with an integrated limiting amplifier for the XFP receivers. The MAX3992 is a CDR device with an integrated equalizer for the XFP transmitters. The MAX3991/MAX3992 chipset is XFI compliant, and operates from 9.95Gbps to 11.1Gbps.
The MAX3991 has a 7mVP-P input sensitivity at BER = 10-12, which allows the TIA to interface with the signal conditioner without needing an external limiting amplifier. The MAX3991 provides 0.6UIP-P jitter tolerance and generates only 7mUIRMS output jitter. The MAX3992 provides 23ps edge-transition times while generating only 4mUIRMS output jitter. The MAX3992 equalizes up to 12 inches of FR4, providing a clean input signal to the laser driver. Both the MAX3991 and MAX3992 have loss-of-signal (LOS) and loss-of-lock (LOL) indicators. The chipset also incorporates a data-polarity switch function.
The MAX3991/MAX3992 operate from 0°C to +85°C and are available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin QFN package. Prices start at $15.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
