Industry's Smallest I2C, 32-Tap, Nonvolatile, Linear Digital Potentiometers Fit in 3mm x 3mm SOT23 or TDFN Packages
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 16, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5432MAX5435, the industry's smallest I2C, 32-tap, nonvolatile digital potentiometers packaged in a tiny, 3mm x 3mm SOT23 or TDFN. These devices feature an integrated EEPROM. This on-chip memory stores the wiper position prior to power-down, thus enabling the devices to operate like mechanical potentiometers. This capability results in a significant size reduction compared to mechanical pots. The MAX5432MAX5435 also offer ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients as low as 5ppm/°C and 35ppm/°C, respectively.
These new digital potentiometers save power by requiring less than 1µA in standby and operating from a 2.7V to 5.25V single supply. End-to-end resistances of 50k and 100k are available. The MAX5432MAX5435 are available in two wiper configurations: voltage divider or variable resistor. An I2C-compatible, 2-wire serial interface adjusts the wiper position up and down the resistor ring. Four addressing options per device allow multiple devices to share the same I2C bus. Prices start at $0.63 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Purchase of I2C components from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., or one of its sublicensed Associated Companies, conveys a license under the Philips I2C Patent Rights to use these components in an I2C system, provided that the system conforms to the I2C Standard Specification as defined by Philips.
