Compact 10Gbps, 3.3V, Packaged VCSEL Driver Needs No External Biasing Components
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 10, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3975, a compact, 3.3V, 10Gbps packaged VCSEL driver. The MAX3975 is ideal for XFP, XENPAK, XPAK, and X2 modules for multimode 10Gbps applications and is available in a tiny 2.5mm x 2.5mm CSP package. This driver can be DC coupled to the VCSEL, eliminating the need for bias filters, saving cost.
Operating from a single +3.3V supply, the MAX3975 has a programmable bias-current range of 1.5mA to 10mA and a programmable modulation-current range of 3mA to 12mA. Input sensitivity is 250mVp-p and input overload is1000mVp-p. The MAX3975 generates only 8ps of deterministic jitter and 0.35psRMS of random jitter, while maintaining 28ps edge-transition times. The driver also has an output-disable function and an output-current monitor.
The MAX3975 is available in a 2.5mm x 2.5mm chip-scale package and operates over the 0°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices start at $28.00 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available to speed designs.
