9-CHANNEL, NONVOLATILE PORT EXPANDER INTEGRATES USER-EEPROM
DALLAS, TX-July 14, 2004-Dallas Semiconductor® (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the DS4520, a 9-bit nonvolatile (NV) port expander plus memory. The DS4520 offers users a programmable alternative to the hardware jumpers and mechanical switches used to control digital logic nodes. The states of the nine I/Os and the 64-byte user EEPROM are programmed over an addressable I2C-compatible serial interface. The logic state of each I/O can also read over the serial interface. The DS4520 offers three address pins, allowing up to 72 I/Os to be controlled/sensed independently over a single I2C bus.
With DS4520 I/O states stored in NV memory, typical applications include setting FPGA/ASIC configurations/profiles or selecting boot flash in RAID systems, servers/workstations, base stations, and industrial controls.
The DS4520 is rated for operation over the industrial temperature range (-40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius) and the 2.7V to 5.5V supply range. It is available in a 16-pin TSSOP package. Prices start at $1.25 (1000-up, FOB USA).
