DS1337 직렬 실시간 클록은 2개의 time-of-day 알람과 구형파 출력을 프로그래밍할 수 있는 저전력 클록/캘린더이다. 어드레스와 데이터는 I²C 버스를 통해 직렬로 전송된다. 이 클록/캘린더는 초, 분, 시, 요일, 일, 월 및 연도 정보를 제공한다. 윤년 보정을 포함하여 월 말일은 31일보다 작게 매월 자동으로 조정된다. 이 클록은 24시간 또는 AM/PM 표시기를 사용한 12시간 형식으로 동작한다.
이 소자는 직렬 인터페이스로 완전하게 액세스 가능하며 VCC는 1.8V ~ 5.5V 범위이다. 1.8V 미만에서는 I²C 동작이 보장되지 않는다. 타임키핑 (timekeeping) 동작은 1.3V 이하의 VCC로 유지된다.
