MAX9981은 이중 고선형성 믹서로 LO(local oscillator) 스위치, LO 버퍼, LO 분배기 및 두 개의 액티브 믹서로 구성되어 있다. 온칩 발룬(balun)을 이용해 단일 신호방식의 RF 및 LO 입력이 가능하다. 이 액티브 믹서는 믹서가 일반 전체 변환 이득이 2.1dB이기 때문에 추가 IF 앰프가 필요하지 않다.
MAX9981 액티브 믹서는 GSM850, GSM900, CDMA850 기지국 리시버의 규격에 맞도록 최적화되어 있다. 이들 믹서는 선형성이 뛰어나고, +27dBm 이상의 입력 IP3를 제공한다. 통합 LO 드라이버를 통해 LO 드라이브 레벨이 범위가 -5dBm~+5dBm로 확대되었다. 이밖에 빌트인 고절연 스위치는 GSM 트랜시버 설계에서 요구되는 LO 선택 속도를 250ns 미만으로 줄였다.
MAX9881은 노출 패들의 36핀 QFN 패키지(6mm x 6mm)로 이용할 수 있으며, 사용 온도 범위는 -40°C~+85°C로 확대되었다.
