기존 반도체 다이오드에 사용되는 P-N 접합 대신 금속-반도체 접합인 "쇼트키-배리어 접합(Schottky-barrier junction)"을 통해 구현된 다이오드. 쇼트키 다이오드는 종종 높은 스위칭 속도와 낮은 순방향 전압 강하를 위해 선택된다.
